New additional hotel building by Akademihotellet, opens autumn 2025
Right in the heart of academic Uppsala, a stone’s throw from the cathedral and with Öfre Slott’s historic surroundings around the corner, is Clasonska gården.
Clasonska gården was built in 1698 by the scientist Olof Rudbeck, one of Uppsala University’s most significant personalities throughout the centuries. Here, during the first half of the 18th century, the county governor had his office for the county council. Later in the 18th century, the building was rebuilt into a post office and in connection with the remodelling, received its current upper floor. The post office used the building until the 1870s, when the person who gave Clasonska gården its name moved in; academic lecturer Edward Clason who later became a professor of anatomy at Uppsala University.
Now the building is once again facing a change in use as it undergoes a gentle renovation in 2024, in order to open up 13 individually designed rooms to overnight hotel guests in the autumn of 2025. All the eras that the building has lived through, from the 18th century onwards, are represented in the house’s interior and as a hotel guest you will be invited to come along on a journey through time inspired by the building’s respective century
– here there are Rooms with history.
