Uppsala has many exciting places to visit and everything is close at hand. Go shopping, enjoy a delicious meal in one of the many restaurants or discover interesting sights in the city’s historic district.

Akademihotellet is situated on the ridge between the Uppsala Castle and the Uppsala Cathedral and the view towards the church towers from some rooms is astonishing. The Cathedral with its´ kings tombs and relics is well worth a visit. At the Uppsala Castle you can also visit Vasaborgen, a real 16th century ruins for joy and thrill.

Next to the Cathedral is Gustavianum, the original University. Today, this is the University Museum with – among many other interesting items – “Det Augsburgska Skåpet” from the Swedish warfare in the 17th century.

Just around 150m from the hotel is the University Building where you find the amazing Assembly Hall. See also the sculptures in the stairwell. On your way from the University Building to the Castle on the hill, you will pass Åsgränd, the little alley were Pelle Svanslös (Pelle No Tail) and the other cats in the books by Gösta Knutsson lived their lives.

Uppsala is the city of Carl Linnaeus, one of the most important scientists ever, who was professor of medicine at Uppsala University in the 18th century.  South of the Castle you find the Botanical Garden, one of the Linnean gardens in the Uppsala area. You can visit the Linnaeus Museum and Linnaeus Garden to get to know the great man better.

Heading back to the hotel you will also pass the University library Carolina Rediviva where a large collection of scientific literature is kept. Most well known item is of course the ‘Silver Bible’.

Stadsträdgården is Uppsala’s city park situated beside the Fyris river. The powers that be in Uppsala took the first steps towards creating this city park in the late 19th century. Now in the early 21st century, open-year-round Stadsträdgården is a firm favourite among Uppsala city folk for strolls, lazing around and its various children’s play, picnic and event areas.
