Welcome to Akademihotellet

Two Historic Hotel Experiences in the Heart of Uppsala

Akademihotellet is our cozy and personal hotel located in the heart of Uppsala’s historic cultural district, perched on the ridge between Uppsala Cathedral and Uppsala Castle. Here, modern hospitality meets living history. Did you know that the building once housed Uppsala’s very first student accommodation, known as “Gubbhyllan”?

The Classic Hotel Wing – 42 Charming Rooms from the 1930s

Stay in our warm and inviting guest rooms, each individually decorated with details inspired by the 1930s when the building was constructed. Many rooms offer beautiful views of Pelle Svanslös’ neighborhood or the cathedral’s iconic towers. Several of our rooms are also part of our “Rooms with History” concept, where you can discover more about Uppsala’s cultural heritage and the personalities who shaped the city. Who will be the next Uppsala figure to move into the hotel?

In this hotel wing, you will also find our four bright and well-equipped conference rooms, the inviting lounge bar overlooking the cathedral, and a variety of recurring events such as our monthly “Historic After Work” and the Akademihotellet Staircase Gallery with new exhibitions each month. Keep an eye on our website to see what’s coming up.

Clasonska gården – Opening 24 November 2025

We are expanding Akademihotellet with a completely new hotel experience in Clasonska gården, one of Uppsala’s oldest preserved buildings. The property has been carefully restored and thoughtfully transformed into an exclusive boutique-style hotel where history truly resides in the walls.

Here you will stay in unique suites – from intimate rooms to more spacious accommodations – spread across three floors, each representing one of the building’s historical centuries: the 18th century exoticism and chinoiserie era, the 19th century industrialization and steampunk era, and the early 20th century Arts & Crafts era. All rooms overlook the historic surroundings of Övre Slottsgatan.

We warmly welcome you to enjoy our two distinct hotel environments and feel the presence of history – whether you stay in the classic hotel wing or in our newly opened Clasonska Gården.

Boutique hotel with a golden touch

New additional hotel building, opens November 24, 2025

Next to Akademihotellet, in the heart of the academic Uppsala, is Clasonska gården. This historical building is undergoing a gentle renovation in order to open up 13 individually designed rooms the 24th of November 2025. All the eras that the building has lived through, from the 18th century onwards, are represented in the house’s interior and as a hotel guest you will be invited to come along on a journey through time inspired by the different centuries in the house.

Exoticism/Chinoiserie – 18th century
A wind from the 18th century sweeps through the entrance floor, bringing influences from the Far East and leaving its mark on the room´s interiors.

Industrialization/Steampunk – 19th century
The middle level breathes 19th century futurism in the footsteps of Jules Verne with the technological and scientific discoveries of the time, as parts of the room´s stories.

Arts & Crafts – 20th century
A patterned splendor from William Morris and friends meets us on the top floor and brings with it a warm and cosy experience with inspiration from the early 20th century.
