The story behind the name Gubbhyllan

The name Gubbhyllan has a long history. When the building that now houses Akademihotellet was constructed in 1930 as Uppsala’s first student residence, only male students were allowed to live here. The building therefore became known as “Gubbhyllan.”

Today, the name lives on as part of the house’s heritage – a reminder of another time, in a place where history is still present.
